The professions with the highest rates of home ownership aren’t necessarily those with the biggest paycheques, according to an analysis of more than 100 years of U.S. census data by Ancestry.com. It turns out those who work in occupations that play integral roles in their local communities—such as fire fighters, farmers, teachers, and yes, even artists—are much more likely to own their homes. Typically, public service jobs also pay off in terms of high ownership rates, as do certain skilled professions.
