Royal Lepage: declutter for a cause

It’s time to dust off your change jar because garage sale season is here.

But what’s better than finding a great deal on your neighbour’s lawn? It’s buying a new-to-you treasure at a garage sale that support a great cause.

On Saturday, May 9, more than 80 Royal LePage offices across Canada will host the National Garage Sale for Shelter—a one-day charity garage sale in support of women’s shelters.

Since 2009, the charity garage sale has raised more than $2 million to support women’s shelters across the country and help fund prevention programs to put an end to violence in Canadian homes.

How can you get involved?

Anyone is encouraged to participate by donating gently used items to your participating Royal LePage office by Friday, May 8. Or simply stop by your local Royal Lepage National Garage Sale for Shelter on Saturday, May 9 to find some great treasures and help support a worthy cause.

This initiative comes just as a new study by Interval House shows the alarming rate of violence towards women in Canadian households.

According to the Angus Reid Forum poll, one in six (16%) of Canadians shared that their mother has been a victim of domestic abuse. Also, 36% of Canadians personally know a mother who has experienced domestic violence. These are alarming statistics, particularly when 94% of Canadians believe a woman should not stay in an abusive relationship for the sake of the kids.
