National strategy on financial resources needed, says task force.
A two-day global conference on financial literacy held in Toronto recommended that Ottawa appoint a financial literacy leader who reports to the Minister of Finance.
While there are plenty of resources and information available to Canadians, it’s often spread out over different departments and difficult to find.
The leader would be responsible for working with all levels of government and other organizations — like the Task Force on Financial Literacy and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada — to develop a national strategy on financial literacy and communicate the message effectively to all Canadians.
Ottawa is expected to announce the position in the June 6th budget.
