New budget could mean cheaper hockey gear, but also price increases on thousands of other items.

Hockey gear could soon become cheaper thanks to the removal of all import duties on sports equipment—a widely reported update in the new federal budget released last week. However, The Canadian Press reports any savings consumers could make on sports equipment will be minor compared to price increases on everything from bikes to food due to a change in import tariffs on products from emerging nations.
At GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca, our editor, Jonathan Chevreau, compares the benefits of tax-free savings accounts (TFSAs) versus registered retirement saving plans (RRSPs) in light of this year’s increase to annual contribution room for TFSAs. In another retirement-related post from Monday, over at Benefits Canada, the new budget is looked at in terms of senior benefits, finding little for retirees to get excited about.
