Further to this question, if contributor has NO RRSP Room, but has never used the permitted $2000 RRSP Over-contribution room, can you avoid the 20% penalty this way by transferring 2K into your RRSP, and then upon eventual withdrawal just have it taxable as any other RRSP withdrawal ?

Good day, Mr. Heath.
Over 20 years ago, my (then) husband and I purchased RESPs for our three pre-school daughters. We have not been together for over 15 years, however, both of our names are on this investment. Our daughters no longer require financial support for their education. The remaining funds will now be divided evenly between us. I am interested in transferring my portion to my grandchildren’s names and hoping it can remain in the same RESP. Can this be done? If yes, can my ex-husband’s name be removed leaving me as the sole owner? Can this transfer be done without loss of the government’s contribution? Or interest? Tax implications?
Thank you, Bethany
