Think your credit-card interest rate is carved in stone? Think again. A new survey by CreditCard.com found that 65% of those who ask for a lower rate, get it. If you have an account in good standing, a request for a lower rate is often approved, says Debbie Gillis of K3C Credit Counselling in Kingston, Ont. “I also recommend that if someone’s interest rate increased due to late payments, they ask the credit card company to consider returning to the previous interest rate after six months of consistent payments.” As for having a fee reversed, there’s no harm in asking. The worst that can happen is they’ll just say no.
