Try signing up for SetScouter.com, a free listing service that lets homeowners rent their houses, condos or even yachts to film producers for single day shoots with crew sizes of no more than 12. Prices range from $500 a day for an unfinished basement (perfect for a slasher flick) to $5,000 for a 1950s house straight out of Leave It To Beaver. So far, most listings are for houses in Toronto hovering around $1,000 daily rental rates, though homes in Vancouver and Montreal are offered too. And don’t worry about any damages to your home—when renting spaces, Set Scouter collects a mandatory $500 security deposit to cover any minor mishaps and requires film productions to be fully insured. Just think of it as Airbnb for movie shoots.
