The Calgary Stampede is in full swing this week. If you and the family are participating in the week-long festivities, you may end up spending more than you anticipated on shows and souvenirs. Luckily, there are several opportunities to take advantage of free food, entertainment and activities in and around Stampede Park.
Children under 6 enter for free
While admission for children ages 7 to 12 is $9, kids 6 and below can enter Stampede Park for free.
Coke can coupon
Specially-marked 12-pack cases of Coca-Cola include a voucher for free admission for children 7-12.
Old time rig rides
Line up at 8:30 a.m. in Fluor Rope Square and receive free tickets for horse-drawn tours of downtown Calgary from July 6-11. The tickets are given away on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Free breakfasts galore
There are several free breakfasts that can be enjoyed nearly every day of the Calgary Stampede. Try fresh pancakes off the griddle at the Chuckwagon Breakfast every morning from July 6-11 in the Olympic Plaza.
Stampede BBQ
Grab a free BBQ lunch on July 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverview Christian Church.
Western Heritage Day
Seniors 65 years and over have free admission to the Stampede on July 7. Snag free coffee and donuts at 9 a.m. at the Agrium Western Event Centre. Catch a free show at 9:15 a.m. in the Western Event Centre featuring Stampede Show Riders and Trick Rider Nikki Flundra.
BMO Kids’ Day
Children 12 and under, along with their accompanying guardians, get in for free on July 8 between 7 and 9 a.m. Catch another free breakfast in the Grandstand Courtyard between 8 and 9:30 a.m.
Superdogs show
Some talented show-dogs will be performing action-packed shows during the Stampede at the Big Four Building. Catch one of four shows daily, free of cost.
Coca-Cola stage concerts
Attending one of these concerts is free with your admission to Stampede Park. Catch artists like Ok Go, Arkells, Magic! and Lights. Check out the schedule for more information.
