Give mum—or anyone else—a ring at no cost this Sunday
Moms always say they wish you’d call more often. This Sunday, you can give her a ring for free, at least if you’re a Rogers Wireless customer. To celebrate Mother’s Day, Rogers is offering an hour of free, long-distance calling to up to 200 destinations across the world.
While the telecommunications giant (which happens to own MoneySense) hopes you will actually use those free 60 minutes to give mom a ring, the truth is they don’t really know who the person on the receiving end is. For all intents and purposes, you could give grandpa, a cousin or really anyone else on the other side of the world—or the country—a call.

The freebie long-distance service will be available between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on May 8 to all postpaid wireless customers (sorry, Pay as You Go customers miss out on this one). During that time, the first 60 minutes of long-distance calling you make will be free of charge, meaning you could make multiple calls without paying a dime. You could phone someone else’s momma if you like.
You could even phone this payphone in Auckland, New Zealand, located between the Cash Converters and KFC on Birkenhead Road: +64-9-480-1279. Who knows, the person who picks up might be somebody’s mother.
