U.S. billionaire investor Warren Buffet and actor Johnny Depp have both purchased their own Greek islands, according to news reports.
Buffet is said to have bought the island of St. Thomas, which covers an area of 1.2 sq km in the Gulf of Egina near Piraeus port, for 15 million euros with a partner. Depp meanwhile reportedly purchased Greece’s Strongylo for 4.2 million euros. The tiny island located in the Aegean Sea spans just 0.2 km.
Last month, it was reported that actors Brad Pitt and wife Angelina Jolie-Pitt were considering snapping Gaia Island in the Ionian Sea.
Money raised from land selloffs could help Greece pay off debt, a condition of its latest EU bailout.
While you may not be in the position to personally help Greece restore its good standing in the EU the same way celebrities are, you may be surprised learn that these 10 cheapest islands listed for sale at privateislandsonline.com are in some cases closer to home and more affordable than you might think.
